Since it was first launched in 1997, Yahoo! Mail is now the leading Web-based email service with more than 260 million users worldwide. Today, there are two versions of Yahoo! Mail available: (1) the traditional version called “Yahoo Mail Classic” that uses the 1997-2006 interfaces, and (2) the newer interface which was introduced in 2007 simply referred to as All-New Mail.
As competition for the free Web-mail service continues to increase over the recent years, Yahoo has provided its users more offerings such as higher storage for non-paying users. Meanwhile, it is now possible to download Yahoo! Mail into Microsoft Outlook. Hence, it adds more flexibility and organization into your e-mail accounts.
First, you must set up a Yahoo! Mail account by visiting the Yahoo home page. Choose the ‘Mail’ link so you can begin. To move on to the next step, you need to have a unique username. Then, fill in all the required information on the corresponding fields and your password, and you are set to go.
Once you have your e-mail account, you may prefer to do the ‘Upgrade’ option where you will be taken to another website. At the website, choose ‘Yahoo Mail Plus’ and then ‘Upgrade.’ You will reach the billing page where you are required to fill up your billing information. Once the process is completed, you can download the Yahoo! Mail into Outlook.
To complete the download process, you must make sure that you have the following so the next few steps will be smooth sailing:
- Credit Card
- Internet access
- Yahoo account
- Yahoo Mail Plus account
If you decide to follow this process, it is important that you remember the following:
- You must frequently sync and download your Yahoo mail so you will not miss any important e-mail. Thus, you have to keep your Microsoft Outlook running to update your email list. Incoming e-mails are then easily detected, regardless of which server the mails are from.
- If you want to clarify anything about your Yahoo! Mail account, you can go to their website and look up the Yahoo Help section.
- As much as possible, do not store your password on your hard drive. This will help prevent hackers or malicious programs from gaining access into your e-mail account.
- Although Yahoo Mail Plus is not free, it is relatively inexpensive. To be able to sync your Yahoo Mail with the Microsoft Outlook, you must first upgrade to the Yahoo Mail Plus.
