Change Toshiba BIOS Password

BIOS means ‘Basic Input/Output System’. It is a program embedded into IBM computers. BIOS begins to run once the computer is turned on. It identifies and initializes the hardware components (such as the hard disk, floppy drive and video display card) of the computer. It prepares the machine so that other programs can be loaded properly. Passwords can be enabled on the BIOS so that its usage will be restricted once it has begun loading.

Toshiba computers use two kinds of BIOS, so before it can be accessed, the user has determine what kind his computer operates. The following options should be tried to be able to set up a Toshiba Computer BIOS password.

The F1 Key Method

Start the computer and wait for the POST screen display. The POST screen has a black background, and it appears before the Operating System loads. A prompt that says “Check System and press F1” will appear. Press the Esc key several times to get to the setup display screen.

Both the arrow and the tab key can be used to navigate inside the BIOS setup program. Highlight the NOT REGISTERED field in the Password field. Press the space bar once and enter the new password. The computer will give a “Password” prompt. Press Enter to get to the next page. Reenter the password when the setup program requires it. Hit the space bar once, then the Password field will display REGISTERED. The user can then exit the window.

The F2 Key Method

Other computers will not recognize the F1 key; some will accept only the F2 key to access the BIOS Setup menu. Pressing F2 will allow the user to see the Setup Utility.

Start the computer. The POST screen display will appear before the Operating System loads. Press the F2 key multiple times until the BIOS setup appears. Look for the Security tab. This is where the password will be set. The arrow keys are used to select “Set User Password”. Press either F5 or F6 to move to the Password section. Type in the new password into the “Password” prompt. Press the Enter key.

The Setup program will require the new password again. Once it has been keyed in, press Enter. The password field will indicate the new password. Press F10 to save and exit the BIOS setup.

HWSetup Method

This program works in the Windows environment. It can be accessed through the Windows Control Panel. This tool can also be used to make new settings and to enable/disable the BIOS password.

Go to the BIOS Setup program and enter the preferred password into the password field. The user will be required to enter the new password whenever he starts, resets or restarts the computer.

Change Streamyx Password

Streamyx is a brand of high-speed broadband Internet service. The service is provided in Malaysia by Telkom Malaysia, popularly known as TMNet. TM is owned by the government. It is also the only Internet service provider in the country that provides nationwide coverage and infrastructure.

Aside from Streamyx, TMNet also offers a number of other services such as:

  • eToonz for music downloads;
  • TMNet commhosting for hosting communication structures;
  • TMNet Web hosting for hosting websites; and
  • TMNet e-voice for VoIP services.

A password is used for most of these services. These passwords restrict unauthorized access to the user’s personal information and services. This means only individuals who have a valid user ID and password can access the services.

You can also change the password for Streamyx and the other TMNet services. To do this, visit the online account management page of the company for assistance. The page offers an online self care service allowing TMNet subscribers to manage the settings of their accounts.

Log in and key in your Streamyx username (without @streamyx) and your current password. Choose the TMNet streamyx service account. Under “Account Management,” hit the “Change Password” link.

Type your old password into the Change Password field. Enter your desired new password, then hit “Submit.” This changes the password for all the services and applications included in your account.

If you wish to change the password for specific TMNet services, click on the box beside “Individually Change Password” for each corresponding service. Follow the directions provided by succeeding pages.

You can also change the setting for password management. Go to “Reset Password Link” and click the box for Individually Change Password. Check the “No Change to Other Password” option and remove the check on the services you want to alter. Click Submit to save the changes made.

Change BIOS Password

When a computer is powered on, the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) begins to run immediately. Users can change the settings of the BIOS so that it will prompt the user for a password whenever they open the system. This will make sure that the user is authorized to access the computer even before the Operating System is loaded.

Starting Up

The user first has to reboot the PC. A succession of diagnostics will flash on the screen and a message that says “hit the ‘DEL’ key to enter the BIOS setup program” will appear at the bottom.

If the Del key is pressed, a menu screen will pop up. Two options will be presented: ‘Supervisor Password’ and ‘User Password’.

Different versions of the BIOS program have varying features. Some versions may not even have the password feature.

Choosing a Secure Password

Choose the ‘User Password’ option. There will be instructions to choose a password that will not exceed eight characters. It is better to use all eight characters and to keep things as random as possible. Key in the characters you have chosen.

Security experts advise a string of random letters and numbers. This will make it harder for others to guess the password. Some of the most common passwords used are either common or related to the user’s personal information. This is discouraged by experts because these would be easy to guess.

Once the password has been typed in, BIOS will ask the user to retype it for validation. The settings of the system to can be changed so that it will request a password whenever BIOS begins to run.

Choose the ‘BIOS FEATURES SETUP’ link to be directed to another menu. In that menu, click on the password check link. Change the settings of the password to ‘Always’.

Return to the main menu. Save the changes and exit setup. Restart the computer to check if the BIOS prompts for a password when it is started.

Change Yahoo Password

People change their passwords for different reasons. They change passwords when they are afraid of hackers. They also change it when they had previously given away their password to someone in order to send something important.

Before a user considers changing his password, he has to know that changing the password for one function will change the passwords of other Yahoo! applications. This means that he has to choose a password that is easy to recall, yet, secure.

Resetting the Password

First, visit the Yahoo! Homepage. Click “Sign In” and you will be taken to the page where you have to input your user name and password. Connect to “Forgot your ID or password?” This will lead to a verification process. Click the circle that corresponds to “Yes, my Yahoo! ID is:” and then enter your name in the text box beside the text “Do you know your Yahoo! ID?”

Since Yahoo! needs to protect itself from boot programs and such, you will have to enter a code. The code is located inside a text box and it appears distorted. This step ensures that you have the right plug-ins needed to get the services.

Click “Next” and you will reach a different string of requirements to go through the verification process. This is where your personal question will come in. You will have to answer that question before you can proceed. If you answer it correctly, you will be given a new password. However, you can still change this password if you want to do so.

If you already know your password and you want to change it, you can do it easily. Just log in to your account and move your mouse until the pointer is right above the “hi, ” text at the top right of the screen. Verify your account and click on the “change password” link. You will be taken to a page where you have to input your current password and your new password. Confirm your new password and click on the “save” button. Your Yahoo! functions will now be accessible with your new password.

Making a Password

Creating a password is not difficult. It has to be as random and as long as possible. However, it should be easily remembered so that you it won’t have to be changed frequently.
